Navy Family Bloodlines

My great great uncle Fred T Whitmarsh served on the USS Minnesota. Pictured is the menu from the Thanksgiving dinner the same year it ship was commissioned. Fred is the only person in the family that served in the Navy that I know of. The Minnesota was launched on 8 April 1905 and commissioned on 9 March 1907.

The Minnesota's first real action was in December of 1907 as she departed Hampton Roads as part of the "Great White Fleet" which was to served as a deterrent to posibble hostilities in the Pacific. President Theodore Roosevelt aim was to increase the size and strength of the US Navy.
